Patients with diabetes should maintain strict oral hygiene, brushing their teeth at least twice a day and flossing daily. Regular visits to the dentist or dental hygienist are essential, as diabetes increases the risk of periodontal disease. Monitoring blood glucose levels is also recommended, as poorly controlled diabetes can worsen gum problems. Avoiding tobacco and eating a balanced diet also contribute to better oral health.
